If you're like me, and the thought of your luggage getting lost gives you anxiety, follow these tips for packing light to become a carry-on traveler! I carry-on whether it's a weekend away or a month long trip through another country!
If it can't fit in your carry-on; you don't need it. Get your carry-on out beforehand so that you know the end goal that everything needs to fit into.
No matter the length of the trip, pack like you are going on a long weekend away!
Limit the amount of shoes you bring. You do not need your cutest shoes. Stick with practical and the shoes you can wear in multiple settings.
Use packing cubes! Honestly, I have not used packing cubes, but I have so many pals that swear by them for space saving. They recommended these compression packing cubes for organization and maximizing suitcase space: Compression Packing Cubes
Depending on how long you are gone, plan on doing laundry while you are away. If you're gone for more than 5 days, plan to do laundry. I realize that people don't like doing chores when they are on vacation, but the minimal time to do laundry to save yourself checking a bag will absolutely be worth it!
Minimize the toiletries that you bring! Aside from hostels, any hotel or AirBnb you stay at will have toiletries that you can use. Forego your regular soap and shampoo and enjoy what's included in your accommodations to really help with packing light.
Roll your clothes! This saves space AND wrinkles!
Wear your bulkiest items on the plane. If you're bringing boots; put 'em on! If you are bringing your winter coat; wear it on the plane!
Pack neutral colors that can go with each other.
Pack clothes than you can dress up AND dress down. For example, I have dresses that I throw leggings and sneakers on with that I can explore all day in. But in the evening, I can take that same dress with sandals and some jewelry and have a cute outfit!
